About The Position

The Barn Attendant will work with horses in a veterinary setting, maintaining safety and proper horse handling etiquette. Responsibilities include feeding, cleaning, watering, grooming, and exercising all department livestock as needed, while gaining experience assisting Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians with horses. The role also involves assisting with disinfecting procedures of stalls/procedure rooms and minor equipment and building maintenance. Participation in Center activities and events is also required.

Requirements

• Understand the basics of equine husbandry
• Possess knowledge of all types of equine food substances
• Ability to safely work around a variety of horses
• Skilled in proper restraint and handling of horses
• Able to safely lift 50 lbs
• Ability to think ahead and work in a fast pace emergency hospital setting
• Able to work independently and in a team environment
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Able to interact with clients professionally
• Demonstrate regular and consistent attendance and punctuality

Nice To Haves

• Desire to go to veterinary school
• Extensive horse experience
