About The Position

A Barista is an integral member of the Barnes & Noble Café team, welcoming customers, answering questions, and helping them find beverages and café items. The role supports efficient café operations by maintaining attractive presentation, stocking deliveries, tidying the bake case and dining area, and providing quick, friendly register service. The Barista is trained to use café technology, prepare food and drinks accurately, maintain merchandising and cleanliness, receive and stock deliveries, follow FIFO and product-dating practices, and support the bookfloor team when needed. The role also includes following café safety, hygiene, sanitation, loss prevention, and de-escalation procedures. As experience grows, the Barista builds product and promotion knowledge, advises customers on customizations, and may progress to Senior Barista. The work involves prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, and extensive walking. Baristas may work at other stores when able and when needed to support the wider Cluster. Responsibilities

Welcome customers cheerfully, answer questions, and help them select beverages and café items.
Maintain an attractive café presentation and support efficient café operations.
Unpack and stock deliveries, and tidy the bake case and dining area.
Operate registers quickly, reliably, and professionally.
Use registers, computers, tablets, programs, and other tools comfortably and efficiently.
Maintain café and retail fixture presentation and cleanliness through merchandising and visual merchandising.
Prepare food and drinks accurately using product knowledge, colleagues, recipe guides, product specification sheets, and other tools.
Complete daily and weekly cleaning tasks during shifts.
Follow FIFO practices and date products consistently and correctly.
Support the bookfloor team when needed.
Follow loss prevention procedures and de-escalation techniques, identify theft or problematic behavior, and seek support when appropriate.
Develop knowledge of beverage, bakery, savory, and gifting products and use it to maintain appetizing displays.
Communicate café products, promotions, and sales objectives to customers and colleagues.
Recommend food and beverage customizations to customers.
Use café training tools and follow café safety, hygiene, and sanitation procedures.
Support the success of key products and promotions.
Comply with company policies and procedures.
Support other stores in the Cluster when able and needed.
