About The Position

This position provides hair care, shampooing, hair cutting, facial hair shaving/trimming, treatment, and recommendations for scalp and hair issues to patients at CMHHIP. The position works independently on hair services on the units or in one of the 3 beauty shops provided at CMHHIP. Keeps records of the services provided. Maintains shop/work area by sweeping, cleaning, and sterilizing area per regulatory requirements. Maintains patient safety by keeping tools and products out of reach and keeping work areas clean and uncluttered. This position also provides instruction and education regarding general hair care and hygiene, as well as maintaining good nail care, on an individual or group basis as needed. The position is a member of the interdisciplinary teams providing cosmetology services that support daily living care and support for community re-entry.

Requirements

  • Current, valid Barber/Cosmetology licensure appropriate to the position from the State of Colorado’s Office of Barber and Cosmetology Licensure
  • Must complete a full Background Check
  • State of Colorado residency at the time of application and throughout employment
  • TB testing
  • Influenza vaccination
  • Other vaccinations as required by the State of Colorado

Nice To Haves

  • 3 years of professional experience as a licensed Barber or Cosmetologist
  • 3 years experience braiding hair, including textured hair
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal grooming services to clients in state institutions, including shampooing, cutting, styling, shaving/trimming (including facial hair), braiding, and treatment recommendations for scalp and hair issues.
  • Determine the stability of a patient before providing hair services, and notify unit staff if the patient does not appear stable enough to receive services.
  • Determine appropriate personal grooming services, special hair care services, and care products for individual patients.
  • Determine scheduling for provided services.
  • Make continuous decisions regarding methods required to monitor hair products and equipment while providing services.
  • Maintain the environment of the beauty shop in a professional manner while maintaining integrity, safety, and security.
  • Follow all regulatory requirements related to Barber/Beauty shop maintenance, and disinfecting, including the maintenance and disinfection of all tools/equipment.
  • Provide instruction and education regarding general hair care and hygiene, as well as maintaining good nail care, on an individual or group basis.
  • Perform assigned tasks and duties within the scope of practice for this position that do not fall within the realm of the duty statements above.
