About The Position

This role involves providing hair care services to residents at the Puller Veterans Care Center. The Barber/Beautician will be responsible for hair cutting, trimming, shaving, and grooming, utilizing both traditional and modern barbering techniques. A key aspect of this position is the ability to work with elderly clients, demonstrating patience, empathy, and cultural sensitivity, particularly towards those with military backgrounds. The role also requires adherence to strict sanitation and safety protocols, with the ability to adapt services for clients with limited mobility, PTSD, or cognitive impairments, including wheelchair and bedside grooming. The position requires a professional demeanor, reliability, and the ability to communicate respectfully and compassionately.

Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent
Cosmetologist License in the state of Virginia

Responsibilities

Proficient in hair cutting, trimming, and shaving
Experience with traditional and modern barbering techniques
Skilled in beard and mustache grooming
Knowledge of sanitation, sterilization, and infection control
Ability to work with sensitive skin, thinning hair, and scalp conditions
Proper use and maintenance of barber tools and equipment
Respectful and compassionate communication
Patience and empathy when working with elderly clients
Ability to actively listen and follow client preferences
Professional demeanor and reliability
Cultural sensitivity and respect for military backgrounds
Understanding of basic health precautions (cuts, skin conditions, blood safety)
