About The Position

The Bar Back plays a critical role in delivering the elevated guest experience that defines Bar nineteen 48. More than a support position, this role serves as an extension of the bar team, ensuring every detail of the guest journey is executed seamlessly behind the scenes and on the floor. At Bar nineteen 48, luxury is found in precision, anticipation, and genuine hospitality. The Bar Back is expected to maintain exceptional standards of organization, cleanliness, product readiness, and guest awareness while developing a comprehensive knowledge of the bar's bespoke offerings, cocktail program, spirits collection, culinary menu, and Balboa Bay Resort amenities. Successful candidates possess a passion for hospitality, a commitment to excellence, and a desire to grow within the luxury beverage and service industry.

Requirements

  • Previous luxury hospitality, restaurant, bar, hotel, or food & beverage experience preferred.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age to serve alcoholic beverages.
  • Must complete TIPS® (Training for Intervention Procedures) alcohol awareness certification as scheduled upon employment.
  • Must have a valid current Food Handlers Card or willingness and ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
  • Strong desire to build a career within beverage, hospitality, or luxury service.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated sense of urgency, organization, and accountability.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English to understand instructions, safety rules, and communicate with guests.
  • Must know all applicable health standards.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, ordinances and regulations and company policy regarding serving alcohol to minors and intoxicated patrons.
  • Must maintain a clean appearance and professional demeanor.
  • Must wear non-slip, oil-resistant shoes, and designated uniform/attire.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the highest standards of cleanliness, organization, and presentation throughout all guest-facing and back-of-house bar areas.
  • Ensure bartenders have uninterrupted access to all products, tools, glassware, garnishes, ice, and supplies required for flawless service execution.
  • Prepare fresh juices, syrups, tinctures, garnishes, infusions, cocktail batches, and specialty ingredients according to established specifications and quality standards.
  • Anticipate operational needs throughout service and proactively support bartenders before requests are made.
  • Monitor guest areas to ensure tables, seating areas, and service stations remain immaculate and guest-ready at all times.
  • Deliver water service, menu presentations, food items, specialty amenities, and other guest requests when appropriate.
  • Develop a working knowledge of Bar 1948's cocktail menu, spirits portfolio, wine selections, culinary offerings, and seasonal features.
  • Engage guests with professionalism, warmth, and confidence while supporting the overall guest experience.
  • Support the execution of personalized guest moments and bespoke service touches that distinguish Bar 1948 from traditional cocktail venues.
  • Assist with receiving, organizing, rotating, and maintaining inventory according to department standards.
  • Ensure all glassware, tools, equipment, and service pieces meet presentation standards before use.
  • Participate in beverage education sessions, menu trainings, tastings, and service development programs.
  • Uphold Forbes-level service standards and luxury hospitality expectations in every aspect of the role.
  • Complete opening, closing, and side work assignments with precision and accountability.
  • Maintain compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and responsible beverage service standards.
