About The Position

The Bar Manager is responsible for leading day-to-day bar operations and ensuring every guest receives a memorable, welcoming experience. This role oversees beverage quality and consistency, bar service standards, sanitation and safety compliance, inventory and cost controls, and the training and performance of bar team members. The Bar Manager works closely with the General Manager and kitchen leadership to support smooth service, achieve sales and profitability goals, and maintain a clean, organized, and efficient bar environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, required.
  • 2+ years of high-volume bartending experience required; supervisory/lead experience strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience with inventory counts, ordering, and beverage cost controls preferred.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and team-development skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of spirits, cocktails, wine, beer, and bar service best practices.
  • Ability to create/execute recipes and specs with consistent technique, presentation, and portion control.
  • Working knowledge of responsible alcohol service requirements and health/sanitation standards.
  • Inventory management skills including ordering, receiving, rotation, and conducting counts.
  • Cost-control capability (beverage costing, waste reduction, variances, comp/void review).
  • Excellent guest service, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize and delegate.
  • Proficiency with POS systems and basic computer tools (spreadsheets, email, scheduling/inventory systems).
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays in a fast-paced environment and maintain a professional demeanor.
  • Must be detail oriented, possess strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to multitask.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekdays, weekends, holidays, and nights.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as e-mail communication, instant message communications, legal documents, license agreements, contracts, invoices, news articles, technical manuals, budgets, ledgers, purchase orders, financial, marketing, Inventory, shipping, and various reports.
  • Ability to effectively present information, provide instructions and thoroughly answer questions in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization in English.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to efficiently use inventory, ordering & computer systems or applications and Microsoft Office programs.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, onboard, train, coach, and evaluate bartenders and barbacks to meet service and quality standards.
  • Create schedules, assign stations, and manage shift coverage to support business volume and labor targets.
  • Order, receive, and rotate bar inventory; maintain par levels, storage standards, and vendor relationships.
  • Conduct regular inventories; investigate variances and implement controls to reduce waste, theft, and over-pouring.
  • Support beverage menu development and maintenance (recipes, specs, costing, and seasonal features) in partnership with leadership.
  • Track and report key metrics (sales mix, beverage costs, comps/voids, labor) and take corrective action as needed.
  • Ensure equipment functionality and bar maintenance needs are identified and addressed; coordinate repairs and preventative maintenance.
  • Lead pre-shift communication for the bar team (menu changes, 86’d items, events, and service priorities).
  • Maintain a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and inclusivity; model guest-focused behaviors and enforce standards consistently.
  • Lead bar service during shifts to ensure timely, accurate, and hospitality-driven service.
  • Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to recipe standards; ensure consistent quality, presentation, and portion control.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of cocktails, spirits, wine, beer, and non-alcoholic offerings; guide guests with recommendations and upsell appropriately.
  • Ensure responsible alcohol service and compliance with all local/state regulations, including ID verification and intoxication protocols.
  • Monitor guest experience at the bar; address inquiries, resolve concerns, and escalate issues to management when needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and readiness of bar, service wells, glassware, and bar seating areas throughout service.
  • Follow all health, safety, and sanitation standards; ensure proper storage, labeling, and handling of food and beverage items.
  • Operate POS and handle cash/credit transactions accurately; follow established cash-handling and comp/void procedures.
  • Coordinate with kitchen and service staff to ensure accurate order flow, ticket timing, and guest satisfaction.
  • Complete assigned opening/closing duties, including stocking, prep, sanitation, and end-of-night breakdown.
