Bar Back (Part-Time)
About The Position
The Bar Back is responsible for stocking, preparing, and keeping the bar supplied before and during service. This role involves preparing garnishes, fruits, and juices, assisting bartenders with supplies, retrieving and verifying orders, proper product storage, maintaining cleanliness and health standards, scooping and transporting ice, washing dishes, and performing additional duties as requested by management. The position requires knowledge of alcoholic beverage preparation and liquor regulations, basic mathematical skills, manual dexterity for various bar tasks, and the ability to communicate effectively in English. Additionally, the Bar Back must be able to read and understand safe-handling instructions and lift/carry items weighing up to 200 lbs.
Requirements
- Must be knowledgeable in preparation of alcoholic beverages including adhering to all State, Federal, and corporate liquor regulations pertaining to serving alcoholic beverages to minors and intoxicated guests.
- Basic mathematical skills necessary to ensure proper delivery amounts, understand portion sizes, and assist with inventory.
- Sufficient manual dexterity of hands and arms in order to use a knife, pick up glassware and bottles, scoop ice, tap kegs, and extend arms overhead to stock items.
- Ability to comprehend and communicate in English in order to provide service as requested by bartenders, managers and guests.
- Ability to read and comprehend safe-handling instructions of products and equipment.
- Ability to grasp, bend, lift and/or carry, or otherwise, move or push goods on hand cart/truck weighing a maximum of 200 lbs.
Responsibilities
- Prepare perishable garnishes, fruits, and juices according to business levels.
- Assist in maintaining adequate supplies for the bar and bartenders.
- Retrieve and verify orders from storeroom for accuracy.
- Store products properly and in designated areas.
- Ensure cleanliness and compliance with health standards in bar areas.
- Scoop and transport ice to service areas.
- Wash dishes and redistribute to appropriate areas as needed.
- Assist with additional duties as requested by management.
