About The Position

The Starting Gate at GreatHorse Events offers an event space perfect for hosting everything from galas and grand receptions to intimate gatherings and corporate meetings with a view! Every guest will remember our innovative event planning, in-house catering, and consistent delivery of exceptional service. The Banquet Captain is responsible for supervising the banquet staff and overseeing the operations of an event. The Banquet Captain also acts as a liaison between the banquet and operation teams. Must be available nights and weekends.

Requirements

  • Availability to work various shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and occasional holidays.
  • Must be 18 years old.
  • Knowledge of beverage ingredients.
  • Multi-tasking abilities.
  • Good oral communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to take initiative and perform job functions with diligence, speed, and accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising the banquet staff and overseeing the operations of an event.
  • Acting as a liaison between the banquet and operation teams.
  • Serving guests during event functions to ensure a positive guest experience.
  • Setting up and breaking down all function spaces.
  • Holding pre-shift meetings to review BEO and selective service standards.
  • Communicating with support staff and management.
  • Leading banquet functions to ensure they run smoothly and efficiently.
  • Ensuring compliance with all departmental and Starting Gate policies and procedures.
  • Organizing all assigned functions and completing preparation work in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Completing the requisition for additional supplies needed and submitting it to management.
  • Ensuring that assigned employees have reported to work and reporting on any absent or tardy employees.
  • Assigning stations and side work to Servers in accordance with department procedures.
  • Ensuring all closing duties for staff are complete before staff clocks out.
  • Providing feedback on staff performance to Operations and reporting any employee issues to the supervisor.
  • Fostering and promoting a cooperative working climate, maximizing productivity and employee morale.
  • Reviewing the status of assignments and any follow-up action with the Operations Manager and/or oncoming Supervisor.
  • Anticipating guest needs, responding promptly, and acknowledging all guests.
  • Attending all scheduled employee meetings and bringing suggestions for improvement.
  • Upholding the integrity of the Starting Gate and its staff.
  • Protecting the property of the Starting Gate.
  • Maintaining reasonable, regular, punctual attendance consistent with Company policies, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Adapting to changing duties, as required, based on business needs.
