About The Position

The Band Teacher will work with students to help them learn concepts in music. This role involves directing instrumental performances, establishing performance requirements, and ensuring student eligibility. The teacher will also coordinate activities with special groups, provide for band participation at extracurricular events, and organize band trips. Cooperation with school administration for music programs and oversight of rehearsal and concert arrangements are key responsibilities. Additionally, the teacher will maintain an inventory of school instruments, control the use of equipment, and make minor repairs. A commitment to developing and implementing an instrumental music program that fosters a learning environment conducive to student development, high achievement, and critical thinking is essential. The role requires effective communication with parents and students, and the use of technology in lessons.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Education
  • Hold appropriate Tennessee certification license
  • Demonstrated organizational skills
  • Effective decision-making and verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Directs instrumental performances including marching band, concert band, jazz band, soloists, and ensembles.
  • Establishes performance requirements, enforces academic requirements, and verifies each student’s eligibility to participate in band.
  • Coordinates activities with special groups.
  • Provides for band participation at extracurricular events, including concerts, parades, and community events.
  • Organizes and implements band trips in accordance with district policy and regulations as well as student interest and ability.
  • Cooperates with the school administration in providing music programs for school productions, and, as appropriate, civic functions that enhance the students’ performing experience.
  • Oversee scheduling and other arrangements for the rehearsals and concerts in cooperation with the building principal.
  • Maintains an accurate inventory of school-owned instruments.
  • Controls the storage and use of school-owned equipment and materials; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required.
  • Develops and implements plans for the instrumental music program.
  • Creates an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Provide an instructional program that is differentiated.
  • Commitment to high student achievement & support for all students.
  • Knowledge of the subject matter being taught.
  • Ability to exercise various teaching strategies to increase students’ critical thinking skills
