About The Position

This position is for a Band Teacher who will serve students at Northeast Elementary and Bath Elementary Schools, with employment effective August 13, 2026. The teacher is responsible for planning, organizing, and presenting instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills contributing to their educational and social development. The role involves managing instructional time, student behavior, instructional presentation, monitoring student performance, providing feedback, facilitating instruction, interacting within the educational environment, and performing non-instructional duties.

Requirements

  • Eligible for a teaching license in NC.
  • Degree in education or a related area that will qualify for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
  • Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, typewriters, calculators, pencils, scissors, and equipment for children with special needs.
  • Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Physical requirements are consistent with those for Light Work due to amount of time spent standing and/or walking.
  • Ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics of data, people or things.
  • Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information, including receiving instructions, assignments and/or directions from superiors.
  • Ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, lists, etc.
  • Ability to prepare correspondence, simple reports, forms, instructional materials, etc., using prescribed format.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret extensive technical instructions; and to deal with abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical or professional languages.
  • Ability to utilize mathematical formulas; add and subtract; multiply and divide; utilize decimals and percentages; and apply principles of statistics.
  • Ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape.
  • Ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment.
  • Ability to handle a variety of items such as office equipment and hand tools.
  • Minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
  • Ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color.
  • Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
  • Adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.
  • Ability to talk and hear.

Responsibilities

  • Manage instructional time by having materials ready, starting lessons quickly, getting students on task, and maintaining high student time-on-task.
  • Manage student behavior by establishing rules and procedures for administrative matters, participation, movement, monitoring behavior, and promptly addressing inappropriate behavior.
  • Present instruction by reviewing previous materials, introducing new objectives, speaking fluently, using understandable concepts and language, providing examples, assigning successful tasks, asking appropriate questions, maintaining a brisk pace, making smooth transitions, clarifying assignments, and summarizing lessons.
  • Monitor student performance by maintaining clear work standards, circulating during class work, using work products to check progress, and posing questions clearly.
  • Provide feedback on student work to encourage growth, offering prompt feedback on assigned work, affirming correct responses, and providing sustaining feedback after incorrect responses.
  • Facilitate instruction by having an instructional plan compatible with school and system goals, using diagnostic information to revise objectives, maintaining accurate records, aligning objectives with strategies and student needs, and using available resources.
  • Interact effectively with students, co-workers, parents, and the community.
  • Carry out assigned non-instructional duties and adhere to established laws, policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Follow a plan for professional development and demonstrate evidence of growth.
  • Perform other related work as required.
  • May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants.
