About The Position

Shape Young Musicians and Inspire Creativity at Mooseheart Child City & School K–12 Band Teacher Are you passionate about music education and committed to helping students discover their artistic voice? At Mooseheart Child City & School, we're looking for an energetic and dedicated educator to inspire students through instrumental music instruction, ensemble performance, and creative expression. In this unique and rewarding role, you'll guide students from Kindergarten through 12th grade as they develop musical skills, confidence, discipline, and teamwork. From beginning musicians learning their first notes to advanced performers preparing for concerts and community events, you'll help build both individual talent and a thriving school music program within a supportive, mission-driven community. About the Role As a K–12 Band Teacher, you'll create engaging and developmentally appropriate learning experiences that foster musical growth, creativity, and performance excellence. You'll lead a comprehensive instrumental music program that supports students at every skill level while promoting discipline, collaboration, and a lifelong appreciation for music. You'll be responsible for building and sustaining a dynamic band program that includes classroom instruction, rehearsals, and performance opportunities that showcase student achievement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Instrumental Music, or related field
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Music Endorsement or eligibility to obtain
  • Experience teaching instrumental music or directing school band programs
  • Experience working with students across multiple grade levels (K–12)
  • Passion for music education and student development
  • Strong classroom management and rehearsal leadership skills
  • Ability to motivate and engage students of all skill levels
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
  • Commitment to building an inclusive and supportive learning environment
  • Must pass a required background and Psychological Evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver engaging instrumental music instruction for K–12 students
  • Teach music fundamentals including rhythm, notation, tone production, and technique
  • Provide differentiated instruction to meet a wide range of student abilities and experience levels
  • Build student understanding of music theory, history, and performance skills
  • Assess student progress through performances, practice assessments, and classroom evaluations
  • Direct and develop elementary, middle school, and high school band ensembles
  • Conduct rehearsals during and outside of school hours as needed
  • Prepare students for concerts, assemblies, community performances, and special events
  • Foster teamwork, discipline, and pride in group and individual performance
  • Promote student participation and build enthusiasm for the music program
  • Develop and maintain a structured, sequential K–12 band curriculum
  • Manage instruments, uniforms, sheet music, and program equipment
  • Coordinate instrument care, repairs, and inventory tracking
  • Support planning for performances, schedules, and program growth
