About The Position

A Ball Mill Operator is responsible for ensuring a mill produces a quality product as specified in the DP409001 “Production Sampling and Testing Guidelines”. The operator reports to the Production Supervisor. This is a night shift position 6p-6a.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 3 industrial experience or technical school equivalent or a combination of education and experience.
  • Willing and able to work and act safely (laboratory and plant practices).
  • Must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations that include the following: multiplication, addition, and percentages – all of which can be accomplished with the use of a calculator if needed.
  • Must have good overall communication skills with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend company safety manual policies, operating procedures, MSDS, and various production schedules/reports.
  • Must be able to lift and move 50 lbs occasionally, must be able to ascend and descend ladders, climb stairs, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and crawl.
  • Must be able to work in a dusty environment where temperatures vary from extremely hot to cold, work in humidity and around various chemicals.

  • Technical school a plus.
  • CDL preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintaining compliance with the Huber Sustainability Management Standard requirements, within their sphere of influence.
  • Operates three mill units (1, 7, 27, 28, 29, 36, 37, 38, 47), coating system, 7 classifiers, 12 load out systems, and a granulation system which provides feed for Ball Mill units, as well as producing bulk granular products.
  • Inspects mill unit area for unsafe conditions daily.
  • Operates mills in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Performs preventative maintenance servicing of equipment as required.
  • Ensures electrical equipment is locked out before repair work begins.
  • Produces and loads materials as established by the Plant Scheduler or Area Coordinator.
  • Obtains in-process, final product, or load out samples on pre-determined intervals DP409001 “Production Sampling and Testing Guidelines” or as specified on the LW403003 “Plant Order Instructions”.
  • Use Statistical Process Control (SPC) techniques as a guide in making process adjustments.
  • Inspects trucks and rail cars before loading.
  • Prepares required daily operation reports.
  • May direct one or more personnel in the packaging process.
  • The operator may be required to perform packaging duties based upon location or under direction of the Area Coordinator.
  • Advises succeeding Ball Mill Operator(s), coordinator, and maintenance of operating problems and conditions.
  • Employees must learn and observe all applicable company policies and safe practices and perform all duties assigned by supervisor.
  • Knowledgeable of the ISO quality system as required to assure compliance to the ISO 9001 quality standard.
