About The Position

The Baler Operator will oversee the scrap management system by operating a forklift, cart dumper, shredder, and all balers. They will collect and resupply Operators across the site with necessary scrap containers to support continuous operation of manufacturing equipment. This role also involves developing expertise on different paper grades, monitoring equipment to ensure proper scrap routing, troubleshooting and maintaining equipment, staging and loading bales, weighing and tagging bales, ensuring documentation and data entry requirements are met, staging and mounting rolls, communicating with other team members, following safety and quality standards, supporting the training program, embracing innovative ideas, and taking ownership of self-development.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to utilize software.
  • Mechanical skills.
  • Ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc.
  • Ability to write legibly in English.
  • Ability to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a forklift, cart dumper, shredder, and all balers.
  • Collect and resupply Operators with necessary scrap containers.
  • Develop expertise on different paper grades and provide coaching.
  • Monitor the cart dumper/shredder and web cutter(s) to ensure scrap is properly routed.
  • Troubleshoot, clean, and support the maintenance of equipment within the Baler Room.
  • Stage and load bales onto the appropriate trailer.
  • Weigh and tag all bales, listing bale weight, grade of paper, and operator name.
  • Ensure documentation and data entry requirements are completed.
  • Stage and mount rolls on the web cutter(s), posting and confirming roll tickets, and trimming damaged layers.
  • Proactively communicate and collaborate with other team members.
  • Follow safety, 5S, quality, and BRCGS standards.
  • Support the development, implementation, and adherence to operating standards within the Training Program.
  • Share and embrace innovative ideas to drive a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Take ownership of self-development in coordination with your Supervisor.
  • Flow to the work or need of the site with positivity, demonstrating a willingness to support additional roles.
