About The Position

The Bakery Sales Clerk works in the retail bakery department and provides customer service while displaying, wrapping, and rotating bakery products, including breads, pastries, and cakes. The role supports product sales and department operations by assisting shoppers, handling orders and payments, replenishing stock, maintaining displays, and following food safety, employee safety, uniform, and grooming policies. Store location varies.

Requirements

• Demonstrated prior customer service skills or related experience.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Ability to operate a bread slicer and other required equipment to prepare goods for sale.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions and to read, retain, and comprehend product labels, price tags, guidelines, policies, and procedures applicable to the position.
• Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a large team.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality customer service in accordance with company standards, policies, and procedures.
• Keep the bakery area clean, including display cases and work surfaces, and prepare and straighten bakery displays.
• Follow applicable federal, state, and local food safety and employee safety regulations, guidelines, and company policy.
• Inform customers about bakery products and services, provide samples, and promote department sales.
• Take bakery orders by telephone or in person.
• Operate an electronic cash register, accept cash or credit/debit card payments, and make accurate change.
• Replace stock in the bakery area as needed.
• Move trays of bakery goods from the preparation area to the display area.
• Monitor products for expiration or approaching expiration and mark them down or discard them as appropriate.
• Use sales reports to identify sales opportunities and use the intercom to communicate sale items.
• Use a price-labeling machine and apply price stickers to packaged items.
• Comply with the company uniform and grooming policy.
