The Bakery Manager exemplifies and ensures strong customer service in all aspects of the job. This role directs and controls the operation of the Bakery Department to achieve sales and profit objectives. The manager champions corporate and division customer service programs, plans, organizes, and directs day-to-day operations of the Bakery Department, and conducts daily inspections to ensure compliance with product quality, code date standards, sanitation, safety, and security requirements. Responsibilities include overseeing and assisting with all bakery department duties such as proofing, baking, decorating, slicing, and packaging fresh bakery products, implementing effective promotional and seasonal displays, preventing shrink, and controlling expenses. The manager is responsible for accurately completing and monitoring daily logs, purchase reports, sales and labor reports, and other required paperwork. They also order, check, receive, and control inventory to ensure adequate product quantity, quality, and freshness, and maintain inventory levels according to Division directives. This role involves stocking and rotating product, maintaining and organizing the bakery department cooler and freezer, conducting periodic inventories, and processing administrative paperwork. Ensuring bakery product quality, baking, and decorating standards are met, along with proper merchandising of product by understanding and implementing schematics, merchandising of advertised items, proper signing procedures, and monitoring product flow, are key aspects of this position. The manager must comply with retail labeling laws, federal and state regulations, and Company policies, including those for handling quick sale items and adhering to all federal, state, and local health and food safety standards. Customer interaction includes assisting customers by taking and filling special orders, making product suggestions, engaging in suggestive selling, and making intercom announcements. Maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of the sales floor, work area, freezer, cooler, equipment, and retail cases, and handling customer relations are also essential. The manager must attend required training and sales meetings and implement emergency procedures in the event of equipment and computer software malfunctions. This role involves supervising, motivating, directing, training, and participating in the hiring of Bakery Department personnel, monitoring associate performance, and recommending personnel actions to the store director. They identify and train associates with high potential for advancement opportunities and schedule personnel to ensure adequate coverage and service levels. Communicating sales goals, department performance, and sales opportunities to department associates is crucial for positive results. The manager must comply with and ensure compliance with all Company policies and procedures, resolve associate complaints where appropriate, and report any potential serious policy violations to the Store Director. Answering and responding to incoming calls appropriately, receiving and resolving customer complaints, and performing all job duties with honesty and integrity are also required.
