The Department Manager Produce is responsible for directing the operation of the produce department. This includes supervising and training personnel, ensuring customer service, and maintaining product quality, freshness, safety, and selection. The role champions company and division customer service programs, handles customer relations positively, and resolves complaints. They supervise the day-to-day functions of the produce department to achieve customer service, sales, and profit objectives. This includes motivating, directing, training, and hiring produce personnel, monitoring performance, and recommending personnel actions. They also schedule personnel to ensure adequate coverage, service levels, and to meet department budgetary objectives. Daily inspections of produce sections are conducted to ensure product freshness and quality, with corrective measures initiated as needed. The role involves rotating products, discarding outdated or spoiled items, and maintaining stock conditions, sanitation, and safety requirements. Assisting with produce duties such as receiving, cleaning, trimming, cutting, watering, and displaying products is also part of the role. Implementing effective promotional and seasonal displays, controlling shrink and expenses, and accurately completing and monitoring daily logs, purchase reports, sales and labor reports, and other required paperwork are key responsibilities. Ordering, checking, receiving, and controlling inventory to ensure adequate levels, product quality, eye appeal, and freshness are crucial. The manager prevents the sale of out-dated or spoiled products, takes periodic inventories, processes administrative paperwork, and maintains accurate department records. Maintaining and organizing the Produce Department work area and cooler is also required. Ensuring produce quality, freshness, and quantity standards are met, and proper merchandising of product by understanding and implementing schematics, merchandising advertised items, proper signing procedures, and monitoring product flow are essential. Compliance with retail labeling laws, federal and state regulations, and Company policies, as well as all federal, state, and local health and food safety standards, is mandatory. Creating effective promotional and seasonal displays and checking competitors for comparisons on prices, product variety, and merchandising procedures are also part of the role. Assisting customers by making product suggestions and engaging in suggestive selling, and making intercom announcements are expected. Ensuring cleanliness and sanitation of the sales floor, work area, cooler, equipment, wet boxes, and cases is vital. Assisting with answering and responding to incoming calls appropriately, and receiving and resolving customer complaints, reporting them to the Store Director as appropriate, are also responsibilities. Assisting with implementing emergency procedures in the event of equipment and computer software malfunctions is required. Ensuring all associates are trained and instructed in proper work duties, monitoring associate performance, and reporting observations to the Store Director are key. Resolving associate complaints and reporting them to the Store Director as appropriate is also necessary. Maintaining confidentiality concerning associates, store sales, and other Company information is required. Performing all job duties and responsibilities safely, accurately, and with honesty and integrity is paramount. Other necessary and required duties may also be assigned.
