About The Position

Gelson’s is hiring a Bakery Clerk to support the daily operations of its bakery and coffee bar at the Pacific Beach location. The role helps create a welcoming atmosphere by providing customer service and preparing and serving baked goods, beverages, and light snacks. The clerk maintains department cleanliness and product quality, handles stocking and orders, and follows company, health, safety, and sanitation procedures. The position requires flexibility to take on additional responsibilities as needed and to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience in a grocery retail setting.
Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
Ability to lift and move heavy items and stand for extended periods.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Knowledge of grocery products, merchandising techniques, and inventory management.
Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to perform continuous hand manipulation, including grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation; reach above and at shoulder level; stand, walk, and bend for up to five hours per day; walk on uneven surfaces; and lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Ability to drive moving equipment, such as a forklift or power jack, and work near hazardous equipment, including a baler and trash compactor.
Ability to work with exposure to dust, gas, and fumes at the receiving dock and extreme temperatures in coolers.

Responsibilities

Assist customers with menu choices and provide excellent customer service.
Prepare and present baked goods, including pastries, bread, cakes, and cookies.
Prepare coffee and tea beverages using appropriate brewing techniques and maintaining consistency in taste and presentation.
Maintain the appearance and cleanliness of the bakery and coffee bar departments.
Stock and rotate products to ensure freshness and quality.
Place and receive product orders, ensuring accuracy and proper storage of incoming merchandise.
Comply with company policies and procedures and health and safety regulations.
Follow safety and sanitation guidelines to maintain a clean and safe working environment.
Be a flexible team player, take on new challenges and responsibilities as needed, and perform other duties as required.
