About The Position

The Bakery Clerk is responsible for adhering to all local, state, and federal health and civil code regulations, including compliance with applicable laws pertaining to safety, health, and packaging requirements. This role involves assisting in receiving and unloading merchandise, verifying grocery deliveries, and checking products for quality, count, and condition. The clerk will manage inventory rotation, control freshness by coding and removing out-of-code merchandise daily, and handle damaged and spoiled products according to company policy. Key duties include answering phones, taking special orders, wrapping, packaging, and pricing products accurately, and decorating cakes to customer specifications. General housekeeping in the department, including cleaning and sanitizing work areas, is also a core responsibility. The clerk must keep the manager informed of low inventory or spoilage issues. Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Have and show an outgoing and friendly behavior.
  • Have a positive attitude.
  • Ability to interact with our customers.
  • Must be able to carry/lift up to 50lbs.
  • Must be able to push/pull up to 200lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for up to 6-8 hours in an 8-hour work day.
  • Hand use: Single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.
  • Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting and reaching.
  • Ability to operate and use knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks, and hand trucks as needed.
  • Uses knowledge of scales and weight measures to accurately weigh and label products.
  • Ability to work in wet and dry conditions.
  • Adhere to all safety, health, and Weights and Measures regulations.
  • Achieve and maintain a Food Handlers permit.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all local, state, and federal health and civil code regulations.
  • Assist in receiving and unloading merchandise, verifying deliveries, and checking product quality, count, and condition.
  • Rotate bakery ingredients and merchandise according to Company Policy and product code dates, using the oldest products first.
  • Control freshness by coding all product and pulling out-of-code merchandise daily.
  • Handle damaged and spoiled products according to Company Policy and assist in controlling the level of damaged goods.
  • Take stock to storage or shelf areas.
  • Answer phones and take special orders.
  • Reduce out-of-code merchandise daily for quick sale to maintain department's image for the highest quality and freshness.
  • Wrap, package, and price all product accurately and legibly in accordance with established Bakery Procedures and Guidelines.
  • Decorate cakes using precise measurements and scales as set by Bakery Procedures.
  • Decorate cakes to customer specifications and prepare them on time for customer pick up.
  • Perform general housekeeping in the department; clean and sanitize work area.
  • Keep manager aware of low inventory conditions or excessive spoilage problems.
