About The Position

The Bakery Clerk at Sprouts Farmers Market prepares, bakes, packages, prices, and merchandises baked goods while assisting the Bakery Manager. The role focuses on providing a high level of customer service and ensuring bakery items are properly prepared, packaged, and presented. The clerk maintains a clean, safe, and sanitary department, stocks and rotates products, checks pricing, and receives and inspects shipments. The position also involves answering phones, taking special orders, operating bakery and material-handling equipment, and complying with food-safety and Weights and Measures regulations.

Requirements

• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Have a high school diploma or equivalent and 1–2 years of Bakery experience, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
• Be dependable and reliable and able to work a changing, flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Demonstrate outgoing, friendly behavior, a positive attitude, and the ability to interact with customers.
• Have good communication skills and the ability to take direction and participate in a team environment.
• Be able to perform general housekeeping and clean and sanitize work areas, including tables, floors, walls, cases, coolers, and freezers.
• Be able to operate and use knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks, and hand trucks as needed.
• Know how to use scales and weight measures to weigh and label products accurately.
• Be able to stand continuously for up to 3 hours and for a total of 8 hours per shift.
• Be able to transfer trays weighing up to 5 lbs. vertically from 7 to 64 inches for up to 10 hours, and transfer items weighing up to 40 lbs. vertically and horizontally from 5 to 36 inches, across distances up to 36 feet, for up to 10 hours without mechanical assistance.
• Achieve and maintain a Food Handlers permit.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Bakery Manager with preparing, baking, packaging, pricing, and merchandising baked goods.
• Provide customer service and ensure bakery items are properly prepared, packaged, and presented.
• Keep the Bakery department, work areas, shelves, products, floors, and equipment clean, safe, and sanitary.
• Stock, fill, and face products; ensure pricing accuracy; check product rotation; and discard outdated or spoiled items.
• Receive, inspect, and log products for shipment accuracy, temperature, and quality.
• Answer phones and take special orders.
• Operate equipment as needed and accurately weigh and label products.
• Follow safety, health, and Weights and Measures regulations and maintain a Food Handlers permit.
