About The Position

The Bakery/Cake Decorator creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service and maintains a safe, clean environment that encourages customers to return. The role assists the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals and monitors established quality assurance standards. The position involves helping customers select bakery products, preparing bakery items—including wedding cakes—according to customer requests, and decorating cakes, pastries, cupcakes, cookies, and other items. It also includes maintaining product quality and freshness, operating bakery equipment according to company guidelines, and supporting inventory, merchandising, food safety, and store safety practices. The employee must be able to perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Requirements

Any retail experience.
Any bakery or cake decorating experience.
Ability to handle stressful situations.
Knowledge of basic math.
Effective communication skills.

Responsibilities

Create a welcoming environment and answer customer questions about products sold in the department and throughout the store.
Maintain product knowledge and answer questions or make product suggestions.
Offer product samples to help customers discover items or learn about products they ask about.
Prepare bakery items, including wedding cakes, according to customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
Recommend bakery items to customers based on their wants and needs.
Check product quality and freshness, review sell-by dates, and take appropriate action.
Use bakery equipment, including refrigerators, freezers, and ovens, according to company guidelines.
Decorate cakes, pastries, cupcakes, cookies, and other bakery items.
Label, stock, sign, and inventory department merchandise.
Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
Understand the store layout and locate products for customers; stay current on present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
Monitor inventory and stocking conditions and note discrepancies.
Follow local, state, and federal health and civil code regulations.
Follow merchandising, customer service, labor control, expense and supply controls, loss prevention, maintenance, safety, food safety, and associate and customer engagement rules.
Comply with safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, and notify store management.
Inspect equipment for preventive maintenance and notify the appropriate department or store manager of items needing repair.
Report safety risks, issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud; notify management of customer or employee accidents.
