About The Position
The Baker is responsible for producing and presenting standing orders for the bake shop, including cakes, pies, cookies, breads, and pastries. The baker is generally assigned to a production or finishing station, but may be called upon to perform both preparation and finishing work. The position may also assist pastry chefs with preparing and presenting special functions and projects. Work takes place in a loud, fast-paced environment where multiple tasks must be handled under time constraints and heavy business volume. The role requires extended periods of standing and the ability to lift at least 40 pounds.
Requirements
- At least one year of experience as a scratch baker.
- Ability to mix, bake, and finish products.
- Thorough understanding of measurements.
- Thorough understanding and knowledge of the use of all equipment used in the Pastry Shop.
- Ability to work standing for extended periods.
- Neat appearance and good personal hygiene.
- Effective, professional communication in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to lift at least 40 pounds.
- Ability to handle heavy business volume in a timely manner.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks under time constraints in a loud, fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare all items according to recipe standards.
- Combine standard mixes and ingredients for cakes and brownies when assigned to production.
- Frost and decorate cakes when assigned to the decorator's station.
- Garnish service trays and cakes for proper presentation when assigned to the decorator's station.
- Combine mixes and ingredients for breads when assigned to the bread station.
- Bake items for specified times and portion them for servings.
- Maintain the workstation in compliance with State and Local Health Department codes.
- Assist pastry chefs with the preparation and presentation of special functions and projects.
