About The Position

The Baker assists with work in the kitchen’s baked goods area, including the preparation and production of baked items. The role involves working cooperatively with colleagues, following food, labor, and quality cost-control procedures, completing assigned side work, and maintaining a properly stocked, clean, and organized workstation. Bakers follow sanitation standards and perform general cleaning tasks using standard hotel cleaning products.

Requirements

• Reading and math skills sufficient to follow recipes and measurements.
• Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with co-workers.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English to complete food requisitions, menus, and recipes; communicate with employees; and follow written or verbal instructions.
• Ability to communicate with a supervisor throughout the shift.
• Ability to work in hot, normal, and cold temperature ranges.
• Sufficient hand dexterity to use knives and kitchen tools, including small, delicate knives requiring fine finger dexterity.
• Ability to operate kitchen equipment, including a bread slicer, mixers, and ovens.
• Ability to grasp, bend, lift, and/or carry up to 60 lbs., or move or push goods on a cart or rack weighing up to 100 lbs. on a continuous schedule.
• Ability to stand, move, and work throughout the workstation for the duration of the shift.
• Ability to walk and work 90 percent of the time, up to a maximum of two miles per shift.
• Ability to organize and prioritize work and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation and production of baked items.
• Work with co-workers to complete job assignments.
• Follow procedures for controlling food costs, labor costs, and quality.
• Complete assigned side work, including replenishing and restocking the workstation.
• Check the station before, during, and after the shift for proper setup and cleanliness.
• Follow accepted sanitation standards.
• Keep the workstation neat and orderly and perform assigned cleaning tasks.
