About The Position

ABM is hiring a Baggage Handler to assist airline passengers with the proper handling, processing, and transportation of luggage. The role includes meeting arrivals as scheduled and assisting passengers at baggage claim. The handler transports standard and oversized luggage, ensures bags are safely placed on the baggage handling system, and follows airport, government, client, and site security policies and processes. The role also involves supporting passengers with baggage questions and claims, coordinating with airport personnel, and preparing incident reports. This is a full-time position requiring work on weekends and holidays. No experience or diploma is required, and on-the-job training is provided. The job may suit someone entering or returning to the workforce with limited experience and education.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
No high school diploma, GED, or college degree required.

Must work weekends and holidays.

One year of customer service experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Load, unload, carry, and transport passenger luggage to and from specified areas.
Assist with proper handling of oversized or unusually shaped luggage, including skis, dog kennels, and strollers.
Ensure luggage is placed safely on the baggage handling system.
Follow all airport and government policies and regulations.
Communicate effectively with passengers, co-workers, shift coordinators, managers, and security personnel.
Determine flight departure times and connecting carriers using customer tickets.
Screen passengers transferring between airlines before placing baggage on return belts.
Ensure baggage tags are correct.
Direct and assist passengers with short-checked bags.
Handle misplaced or lost baggage claims and provide reports to carriers.
Evaluate customers’ needs concerning airline locations.
Comply with client and site security requirements and processes.
Coordinate assignments with dispatchers and gate agents when necessary.
Complete thorough incident reports.
