About The Position

The Baggage Handler assists airline passengers with the proper handling, processing, and transportation of their luggage. The role includes meeting arrivals as scheduled and assisting passengers at baggage claim. Bilingual ability is required. This position may be suitable for someone entering or returning to the workforce with limited experience and education. No experience is required, and on-the-job training is provided. ABM encourages veterans and candidates with military experience to apply.

Requirements

Must be 18 years of age or older.
Bilingual ability is required.
No high school diploma, GED, or college degree is required.
No prior experience is required; on-the-job training is provided.

Nice To Haves

Basic English-language communication ability.
One year of customer service experience.

Responsibilities

Load, unload, carry, and otherwise transport passenger luggage to and from specified areas.
Assist with the proper handling of oversized or unusually shaped luggage, including skis, dog kennels, and strollers.
Ensure passenger luggage is safely placed on the baggage handling system.
Follow all airport and government policies and regulations.
Communicate effectively with passengers, coworkers, shift coordinators, managers, and security personnel.
Determine flight departure times and connecting carriers based on customer tickets.
Screen passengers transferring between airlines before placing baggage on the return belts.
Ensure baggage tags are correct.
Direct and assist passengers with short-checked bags.
Handle misplaced or lost baggage claims and provide reports to carriers.
Evaluate customers’ needs concerning airline locations.
Comply with client and site security requirements and processes.
Coordinate assignments with dispatchers and gate agents, when necessary.
Complete thorough incident reports.
Meet arrivals as scheduled and assist passengers at baggage claim.
