About The Position

The Backup position supports the general operations of the pharmacy by providing coverage and assistance across assigned departments, workstations, and operational functions as needed. This position is responsible for supporting the organization, handling, movement, inventory, packaging, distribution, and processing of medications, OTC products, supplies, and packages in accordance with established procedures. The employee must be flexible and able to transition between operational areas based on staffing levels, workload, volume, and business needs. The Backup employee is expected to perform the duties of the position or workstation to which they are assigned and must ensure compliance with applicable company policies, professional standards, and legal, regulatory, confidentiality, and safety requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least one (1) year of clerical experience in a manufacturing, warehouse or pharmacy.
  • Able to work quickly and efficiently.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage and execute multiple projects.
  • Proactive and have the ability to work well independently and as a team.
  • Professional, positive attitude with a strong work ethic and a continuous learner.

Responsibilities

  • Provide coverage and operational support in assigned pharmacy departments, work areas, stations, or functions as directed by a Supervisor or Manager.
  • Assist with the handling, organization, preparation, movement, scanning, staging, packaging, stocking, and distribution of Rx medications, OTC products, supplies, and packages.
  • Support the distribution process by organizing and staging packages according to established zones, routes, work areas, or other operational requirements.
  • Assist with the movement of completed or pharmacist-verified medications and OTC products between designated pharmacy workstations and operational areas.
  • Support inventory activities, including stocking, replenishment, organization, monitoring inventory levels, and notifying the appropriate Supervisor or Team Leader of shortages or discrepancies.
  • Assist with receiving merchandise and supplies and with the classification, organization, storage, and transfer of products to appropriate departments or workstations.
  • Follow established storage, custody, handling, and product-rotation procedures and assist with monitoring expiration dates to minimize expired, damaged, misplaced, or otherwise unusable products.
  • Assist with invoices, purchase orders, receiving documentation, delivery reconciliation, inventory records, and other operational documentation as assigned.
  • Verify quantities, contents, labels, packages, products, or documentation as required by the assigned function.
  • Maintain assigned work areas, shelves, stations, equipment, packages, medications, products, and supplies in a clean, orderly, safe, and organized condition.
  • Ensure that workstations and operational areas are adequately supplied with the materials and products necessary to support workflow.
  • Handle medications, products, packages, equipment, and supplies carefully to prevent loss, damage, contamination, or errors.
  • Operate scanners, material-handling equipment, and other equipment required for assigned duties safely and according to established procedures.
  • Follow the procedures and work instructions applicable to the department, station, or function being covered.
  • Promptly report inventory discrepancies, operational issues, safety concerns, errors, unusual circumstances, or other anomalies to the appropriate Supervisor or Manager.
  • Work collaboratively with employees across departments and adjust assignments, priorities, and responsibilities according to staffing and operational needs.
  • Assist with workflow, process improvement, and other activities intended to improve efficiency and coordination between operational areas.
  • Maintain the confidentiality and security of company, patient, pharmacy, and operational information.
  • Adhere to all applicable company policies and procedures and federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Perform other duties and provide additional departmental or operational coverage as assigned based on training, qualifications, and the needs of the operation.
