About The Position

This position has a fundamental responsibility to ensure product safety and quality as it applies to all duties listed below. The role will promote a safe working environment and adhere to all safety policies and procedures to prevent injury. The Backup Operator will be responsible for assuring that finished goods meet or exceed customer expectations. This role involves inspecting products for defects, verifying specifications, performing rework, and maintaining a clean work area. Additionally, the Backup Operator will assist the Operator and Maintenance departments with various tasks during machine startups, jams, and planned maintenance.

Requirements

High School diploma or GED equivalent
Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds continuously throughout the shift.
Work involves continuous lifting, bending, reaching, and twisting.
Cognitive and mental ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

Ensure product safety and quality.
Promote and maintain a safe working environment.
Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
Assure finished goods meet or exceed customer expectations.
Find and classify typical defects encountered in products.
Identify critical defects that could lead to package failure or unsafe conditions.
Identify major defects that may cause handling or performance problems.
Identify minor defects that are aesthetically objectionable.
Alert the Operator to all defects for timely addressing.
Verify specifications sheets to ensure packaging parameters are being met.
Safely perform any required rework.
Perform housekeeping duties and keep the work area clean.
Clean the entire line area when a line goes down.
Promote a teamwork atmosphere by assisting where needed in housekeeping, organizing, packing, transporting corrugated, erecting corrugated, and performing rework.
Safely assist the Operator in grinding bottles during machine startup.
Clear jams on the downstream equipment.
Perform housekeeping around the entire machine, including grinders, downstream, and under the takeouts.
Safely assist the Maintenance department through housekeeping on and around machines that are down for planned maintenance.
Evaluate and take appropriate action to maintain a safe work environment with established standards and guidelines.
Inspect work areas and look for unsafe acts/conditions.
Effectively use verbal and written communications.
Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
Perform sweeping, cleaning, and sorting duties as necessary.
Perform all duties in accordance with safety rules and procedures.
