This role has a fundamental responsibility to ensure product safety and quality as it applies to all duties. The Backup Operator will promote a safe working environment and adhere to all safety policies and procedures to prevent injury. The position is responsible for assuring that finished goods meet or exceed customer expectations. The Backup Operator will be responsible for identifying and classifying typical defects, including critical defects (likely to cause failure and unsafe conditions), major defects (handling or performance problems), and minor defects (aesthetically objectionable). They will alert the Operator to all defects and verify that packaging parameters are being met according to the specifications sheet. The role involves safely performing any necessary rework and housekeeping duties, keeping the work area clean, and cleaning the entire line area when a line goes down. A teamwork atmosphere is promoted by assisting with housekeeping, organizing, packing, transporting corrugated, erecting corrugated, and performing rework. The Backup Operator will safely assist the Operator in grinding bottles during machine startup, clearing jams downstream, and performing housekeeping around grinders, downstream equipment, and under takeouts. They will also assist the Maintenance department through housekeeping on and around machines during planned maintenance. The role requires evaluating and taking appropriate action to maintain a safe work environment with established standards and guidelines, inspecting work areas for unsafe acts/conditions, and using effective verbal and written communication. The Backup Operator must maintain a clean and safe working environment and perform sweeping, cleaning, and sorting duties as necessary, all in accordance with safety rules and procedures.
