About The Position
Manages backup operations, disaster recovery planning, and restore testing for all covered systems. This role requires ensuring backups occur every 8 hours minimum, defining Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO), conducting annual restore testing, and defining retention periods. The specialist will manage backup schedules and retention policies, monitor backup success/failure, perform annual restore tests and document results, ensure near-real-time incremental backups where possible, and support disaster recovery planning and execution.
Requirements
- Backups must occur every 8 hours minimum
- Must define RTO and RPO
- Must conduct annual restore testing
- Must define retention periods
- 8+ years of experience in backup administration, disaster recovery, or business continuity
- Experience with Veeam, Azure, and on-premises backup systems
- Experience defining RTO/RPO, retention policies, and performing restore testing
- Experience supporting municipal or enterprise environments
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or related field
- US Citizen
- Must pass City of Canton background check
- Must comply with City cybersecurity, backup, and disaster recovery policies
- Must maintain confidentiality of City data and systems
