Backhoe Operator (Westlake, LA)
About The Position
Operates specialized equipment in support of inspection, installation, and maintenance of railroad track. This is a high visibility position that requires a professional demeanor in interactions with Supervisors, employees, contractors and customers. The role interfaces with all levels of employees and management and performs duties under general supervision with limited discretion. The work is performed outside in varying types of environmental conditions in a fast-paced outside RR / construction environment. It requires efficient development and performance of processes, and the ability to multitask in a time sensitive environment.
Requirements
- Demonstrated operation experience and equipment knowledge.
- Basic mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot simple mechanical failures.
- Previous experience in railroad construction or maintenance preferred.
- Able to perform physical strenuous work
- Able to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch
- Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs
- Requires occasional use of 30 lb claw bar to remove spikes, requiring application of 50 lbs of force
- Requires occasional use of 10 lb sledge hammer to drive spikes, requiring application of 75 lbs of force
- Able to walk, climb, and maintain balance on equipment, stairs, ladders, uneven terrain, rails and ballast in a safe manner
- Able to navigate into confined spaces if necessary
Responsibilities
- Operate Specialized equipment. (i.e. Backhoe, etc.)
- Performs preventative maintenance on heavy or specialized equipment.
- Maintains proper equipment appearance and cleanliness.
- May perform labor duties as needed.
- Communicates with supervisor throughout the job process.
- Ensures working conditions are safe and that proper PPE is being used as job duties require.
- Follow DOT regulations; ensuring proper permits and driving regulations are followed.
