The Assigned Counsel Plan (ACP), established in 1966 under Article 18B of the County Law, provides quality legal services to indigent persons. Funded by the City of New York through the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice, the ACP compensates private attorneys for representing indigent clients in criminal cases. Attorneys are assigned matters by the Court and the Administrator’s Office when institutional providers have a conflict. The Background Review Manager, under the supervision of the Director of Ancillary and Expert Services, will support the review, credentialing, roster maintenance, and vendor onboarding for ACP experts, interpreters, investigators, court reporters, and panel attorneys. This role involves conducting background and credential reviews, maintaining accurate records in ACP systems, coordinating with partners, and ensuring vendors are properly reviewed, documented, and entered into systems for assignment and payment.
