Backend Software Engineer

TeambridgeSan Francisco, CA
Hybrid

About The Position

Teambridge is seeking a Senior/Lead Backend Engineer who is a critical thinker and a doer, desiring real ownership and impact, with a proven ability to ship high-quality code that performs at an enterprise scale. The engineering team operates with speed and embraces ambiguity, requiring engineers who can take rough requirements and independently scope, execute, and unblock themselves. While the core focus is backend development, engineers are expected to contribute to frontend aspects when necessary to ship features. The ideal candidate prefers shipping a solid initial version and iterating over prolonged polishing. They should possess strong, well-reasoned opinions that are open to challenge, prioritizing the best idea over seniority or volume. Direct collaboration with founders, product, and customer-facing teams is expected, along with the ability to clearly explain technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders. Adaptability and effectiveness in the face of shifting requirements are crucial. The team heavily utilizes AI coding tools, and curiosity, adaptability, and a willingness to learn are valued more than a resume that perfectly matches every listed technology.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in backend development (Java, Go, Python, Node.js, etc).
  • Prior experience shipping production-grade code working with AI coding tools

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of experience with Kotlin or other JVM languages
  • Prior experience with asynchronous event-based systems based on SQS, Kafka, PubSub, or similar
  • Prior experience with our existing tech stack

Responsibilities

  • Independently deliver features end-to-end: backend and infrastructure, plus the frontend skeleton to make them meaningful
  • Work cross-functionally with product, design, and sales to understand requirements and ship thoughtful solutions.
  • Remove ambiguity by leading tradeoff discussions with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Write high-quality code optimized for extensibility and scale.
  • Actively engage in code reviews to maintain a high bar of engineering excellence.
  • Lead or participate in discussions and architecture reviews to collaborate and arrive at the best technical design.
  • Promote better practices and share technical knowledge across the team.
  • Help grow Teambridge through deliberate feedback on product, process, and culture.
