About The Position

CLA is seeking a Backend Software Engineer to join its technology team. The role supports the design, development, and maintenance of secure, efficient server-side systems and APIs. The engineer collaborates with technology professionals and business stakeholders to build reliable solutions, integrate applications, troubleshoot issues, and support the evolution of CLA’s technology environment. The position builds and maintains APIs and server-side services, contributes to feature design, testing, and deployment with guidance from senior team members, and implements security and data protection measures as directed. It also includes monitoring system performance, troubleshooting issues, supporting project planning, and maintaining technical documentation. The position requires less than 10% travel.

Requirements

At least 2 years of relevant experience.
Bachelor's degree required; a combination of relevant experience, education, and training may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
Foundational experience with one or more server-side languages, such as Java, Python, Ruby, PHP, or Node.js.
Basic understanding of SQL and NoSQL database technologies, including MySQL and MongoDB, and familiarity with data querying and data structures.
Familiarity with Git for source control, branching, merging, and collaborative code management.
Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to support integration with front-end components and understand full-stack interactions.

Nice To Haves

Experience with programming languages commonly used in backend development, such as Python, Java, C#, or Node.js.
A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.

Responsibilities

Build and maintain APIs that enable secure and efficient data exchange between systems.
Develop and support server-side logic, services, and data structures.
Collaborate with front-end developers and other team members to integrate user-facing elements with backend systems.
Work with stakeholders to understand business requirements and help translate them into technical solutions.
Participate in the design, testing, and deployment of new features with guidance from senior team members.
Implement security and data protection measures as directed.
Perform unit and integration testing to help ensure functionality and reliability.
Create and maintain technical documentation, including specifications, diagrams, and implementation details.
Monitor system performance and help troubleshoot and resolve issues.
Support project planning activities, including estimation, task coordination, and identifying dependencies.
