About The Position

The Backend / Data Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing scalable backend systems that support VRC’s operational and business objectives. This role will serve as a technical expert and strategic partner by building data-driven architectures, improving system performance, ensuring data integrity, and supporting enterprise-level integrations. The Backend / Data Engineer will play a critical role in shaping the flow, transformation, and consumption of data across the organization while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and high-performing solutions.

Requirements

Advanced experience with TypeScript, Node.js, PostgreSQL, and Apache Kafka
Strong understanding of PostgreSQL internals, performance tuning, indexing, partitioning, and relational modeling
Experience building enterprise-grade APIs and backend services
Knowledge of stream processing, producer/consumer configurations, and event-driven architectures
Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile/Scrum development methodologies
Extensive professional experience building backend systems and enterprise-grade applications
Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, Apache Kafka, and TypeScript

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes
Experience with React to support frontend collaboration
Experience integrating with Salesforce, CRM, ERP, or enterprise platforms
Logistics, inventory management, or operational systems experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related technical field
Experience supporting scalable data architectures and high-volume datasets
Experience working within Agile/Scrum environments

Responsibilities

Designing and implementing backend systems where architecture is driven by the efficient flow and transformation of data.
Developing robust, scalable, and type-safe services and APIs using TypeScript and Node.js while ensuring system reliability and maintainability.
Designing, implementing, and optimizing Apache Kafka streams and event-driven systems.
Ensuring high-throughput processing, reliable messaging, scalable topic modeling, and seamless data movement across enterprise platforms.
Managing and optimizing PostgreSQL databases with a focus on schema design, indexing strategies, query execution plans, partitioning, vacuuming, and low-latency data access.
Supporting large-scale datasets and maintaining high system performance.
Partnering closely with product teams, leadership, and engineering teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
Participating in code reviews, troubleshooting, mentoring, and knowledge-sharing initiatives while supporting continuous process and system improvements.
Supporting integrations between backend systems and enterprise platforms, including CRM and ERP systems.
Contributing to scalable architecture decisions that align with organizational growth and long-term technology strategies.
