About The Position

The City of Farmington is seeking a full-time B & M Maintenance Technician to join the General Services department. This position is responsible for repairing and maintaining structures and equipment at City-owned facilities. The role involves performing a variety of maintenance tasks, including plumbing, painting, carpentry, welding, concrete work, and inspecting mechanical equipment. The technician will also participate in remodeling and small construction projects, utilize various tools, and perform some custodial duties. This is a regular, full-time position with a Monday-Friday work schedule.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of experience in building maintenance.
  • Valid New Mexico's driver's license with an acceptable driving record for the past three years.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug/alcohol test.
  • Must pass extensive background checks.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test as part of the City's Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Program.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with employees, officials, and the public using excellent customer service skills.
  • Operates a motor vehicle for departmental and City business.
  • Supervises support personnel, or other part-time or temporary staff as assigned.
  • Repairs and maintains structures and equipment at City Owned facilities, making minor repairs independently and working as part of a crew on larger projects.
  • Identifies building problems and determines appropriate methods of repair.
  • Performs a variety of repair and maintenance tasks, including plumbing, fixtures, painting, woodwork, flooring, construction, welding, fabrication, and concrete work.
  • Participates in remodeling and small construction projects, working from plans, blueprints, and verbal instructions.
  • Utilizes a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Inspects mechanical equipment for defects and makes necessary repairs.
  • Performs some custodial duties as assigned.
  • Performs routine building and grounds inspections for preventative maintenance.
  • Performs routine maintenance on motors, electrical systems, carpentry, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, boilers, and other related mechanical equipment.
  • Operates a wide range of vehicles and motorized equipment, including backhoe, water truck, bobcat, and forklift.
  • Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assigned.
  • Assists other personnel of Building Maintenance as needed.
