About The Position

Community Access Unlimited (CAU) is hiring an Awake Overnight Counselor for its youth shelter program in Elizabeth, New Jersey, serving young people ages 13 to 17. The counselor remains awake, alert, and on site throughout the overnight shift, helping maintain a safe residence and supporting young people’s daily living skills and well-being. The role may be full-time or part-time and pays $20.57 per hour. The overnight schedule is 12 a.m. to 8 a.m., with days varying. Employees complete one week of paid orientation before their first shift and participate in ongoing paid training, which may occur outside their regular shift.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least six months of experience working with young people ages 13 to 17; one year is required for full-time employment.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Strong organization and self-motivation.
• Comfort with computers and Microsoft Office.
• Availability for the full week of paid orientation and for paid trainings that may fall outside the regular shift.

Responsibilities

• Keep young people safe overnight by staying awake, alert, and on site for the full shift.
• Help young people build daily living skills and provide supportive counseling.
• Drive young people to school, medical appointments, and activities as needed.
• Help young people take part in community life.
• Keep the residence and its equipment safe, clean, and organized.
• Complete required documentation accurately and on time.
