AVP, Technical Program Management

HealthEquity•Draper, UT
•$175,500 - $232,500•Remote

About The Position

HealthEquity is seeking an AVP, Technical Program Management to lead the work that crosses product, engineering, design, data, security, operations, and sales. The role owns cross-team initiatives and the systems and decision-making processes that help the company plan and deliver work. The company is moving from annual commitments to quarterly planning while adapting to engineering teams that use AI agents, and this leader will help establish those capabilities as they evolve. The position reports to the VP, Strategy, Development and Planning and leads 14 technical program managers, both directly and through a manager. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on making decisions and delivering outcomes, rather than building a reporting-focused PMO or chief-of-staff function. The successful candidate will carry the highest-altitude work personally while developing the team. The role is remote, with mandatory onsite participation in Trailhead onboarding at HealthEquity's headquarters once per quarter. HealthEquity covers required travel and accommodations. Compensation is listed at $175,500 to $232,500 per year, with eligibility for performance-based incentives and restricted stock units, in addition to a range of benefits.

Requirements

  • Have run a program management function in an organization with significant cross-functional complexity, or have served as the deputy who effectively ran it.
  • Be able to describe a program or process turnaround with measurable before-and-after results, such as hours, cycle time, or dollars.
  • Have personally shipped internal tooling.
  • Have a clear point of view about the future of the technical program management function.
  • Have eliminated a process and be able to explain which process and why.
  • Be effective with both leadership teams and engineers while presenting a consistent argument.
  • Understand how AI-native teams work, including the limitations of productivity claims.
  • Be comfortable working hands-on and personally carrying high-altitude work.

Responsibilities

  • Own cross-team programs that span organizational gaps and be accountable for whether they are delivered.

  • Design and lead quarterly and annual planning, capacity planning, and prioritization processes.
  • Lead the transition from annual commitments to quarterly planning cycles.
  • Maintain operational systems of record for work in progress and resource assignments.
  • Oversee capitalized-development tracking that can withstand an audit and manage vendor relationships.
  • Build internal tooling that brings together roadmaps, legacy delivery work, and newer engineering work, including visibility into work in flight and ownership.
  • Frame ambiguous problems at the outset and exercise sound judgment at decision points.
  • Lead and develop 14 technical program managers, some directly and some through a manager.
  • Personally handle the highest-altitude work while the team develops senior-level capacity.
  • Help the company adapt its planning and engineering practices, including how teams work with AI agents.
