About The Position

The AVP, Product Leader role is designed to support the Construction Organization and leads the governance and oversight of the portfolio. You will work closely with leaders across the enterprise establishing underwriting strategies, standards, guidelines, authority standards and the audit process. The position will work closely with Construction leadership to drive the Construction Sustainability initiative.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of underwriting experience in commercial underwriting with depth of knowledge the construction industry segment.
  • Strong coverage knowledge.
  • Skill in assessing exposures to loss, loss analysis and pricing.
  • Responsible for the overall management, analysis and monitoring of the portfolio.
  • High degree of technical understanding to coordinate complex strategies across Construction and the enterprise.
  • In-depth technical knowledge of underwriting theories and practices within the Construction insurance field.
  • Ability to effectively interact and communicate with all levels of external and/or internal business partners within scope of responsibility, team and/or matrix environment.
  • Leadership and matrix management skills, demonstrating integrity and professionalism.
  • Ability to drive results by identifying and resolving problems within scope of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry, its products and services.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
  • Bachelor’s degree with Master’s preferred in a related discipline, or equivalent.
  • Typically a minimum of 10 years of related work experience, with five years management experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes & implements strategic objectives, underwriting strategies and best practices with substantial impact on the short-term success of Construction
  • Ensures the achievement of continued profitability, growth and/or operational efficiencies for Construction through assessment of risk tolerance, market appetite and emerging risk issues.
  • Evaluates and drives underwriting quality and performance based on financial analysis; includes rate, reserve adequacy, operational, planning and product reviews and develops plans to resolve issues.
  • Drives adherence to underwriting authority delegation and audit criteria for Construction.
  • Collaborates with both business partners in Underwriting, Risk Control, Actuarial, Claim, Operations and Compliance to address governance and compliance issues related to underwriting practices and across the Commercial Industry Segment organization and the broader product/strategy team.
  • Establishes and implements underwriting guidelines, policy, forms, and manuscript endorsements; identifies gaps in product offerings.
  • Confidently shares knowledge and expertise with others, mentoring, and assisting in the development and facilitation of underwriting training.
  • May take lead responsibility for the development of underwriting strategies and position papers for emerging issues when assigned.
  • Maintains relationships with field underwriting teams, brokers, agents, and customers to assess risk tolerance, market appetite and emerging issues.
