About The Position

The Assistant Vice President, Government Affairs – Policy & Strategy, will serve as a key member of MUFG Americas’ Government & External Affairs function, supporting the firm’s engagement across the U.S. policy, regulatory, and geopolitical landscape. Based in Washington, D.C., this role integrates policy analysis, strategic insight, and executive communication, translating legislative, regulatory, and geopolitical developments into actionable intelligence for senior leadership, business lines, and clients. The AVP will contribute to positioning the function as a central resource for policy insight and strategic context, connecting policy developments to MUFG’s business priorities, client activity, and market environment. The role requires the ability to analyze complex developments, synthesize information quickly, and communicate implications clearly and effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Requirements

  • 7–10+ years of experience in government affairs, public policy, regulatory analysis, or related roles within financial services, government, or a trade association
  • Experience in or closely aligned with the U.S. federal government (e.g., Congressional staff, regulatory agency, Treasury, Federal Reserve, or policy-focused role)
  • Strong understanding of the U.S. legislative and regulatory landscape, particularly in banking, financial markets, and prudential supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze policy developments and communicate implications to senior stakeholders
  • Experience preparing briefing materials, policy analysis, and executive presentations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex issues into clear, structured outputs
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking capabilities, including the ability to assess policy, market, and geopolitical impacts
  • Ability to develop client-ready materials and presentations under tight timelines
  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Intellectual curiosity and ability to synthesize large volumes of information quickly
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively across business lines and functional teams
  • Professional judgment and discretion in handling sensitive policy and regulatory matters
  • Bachelor’s degree required

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, analyze, and interpret U.S. legislative, regulatory, and executive branch developments impacting financial institutions, capital markets, and MUFG’s operations
  • Track policy activity across federal agencies and independent regulators (e.g., Federal Reserve, OCC, FDIC, SEC, Treasury)
  • Attend Congressional hearings, regulatory proceedings, and policy forums; synthesize key developments into timely and actionable internal updates
  • Identify emerging policy and geopolitical trends and assess implications for MUFG, its clients, and broader market dynamics
  • Translate complex policy and geopolitical developments into clear, decision-relevant insights for senior leadership, business heads, and client-facing teams
  • Connect legislative and regulatory developments to business strategy, client portfolios, and market opportunities
  • Support development of MUFG’s perspectives on key policy issues, including contributions to white papers, comment letters, and advocacy materials
  • Partner with business lines, including GCIB and JCB, to align policy insights with client priorities and strategic initiatives
  • Prepare high-quality briefing materials, executive summaries, and talking points for senior leadership engagement with policymakers and regulators
  • Develop client-facing materials, including policy updates, presentations, and slide decks, translating policy developments into market-relevant narratives
  • Produce concise written analysis tailored for executive audiences and external stakeholders
  • Support internal communications to ensure consistent understanding of key policy developments across the organization
  • Support engagement with policymakers, regulators, and trade associations through research, analysis, and briefing preparation
  • Assist in coordinating MUFG’s advocacy efforts and alignment with industry groups and peer institutions
  • Provide analytical support for meetings, outreach strategies, and policy positioning
  • Help ensure consistency and clarity of messaging across internal and external engagements
