About The Position

The Associate Director of International Policy will support the development of policy positions on emerging health issues and coordinate engagement strategies with international organizations on global health issues that could impact Gilead. You will contribute to and lead cross-functional working groups to address critical health security policy issues related to international trade, Artificial Intelligence (AI), data privacy, regulatory affairs, and responsible business, including environmental, social, and governance (ESG) policies. The Associate Director will also support senior leadership engagement in global health associations, including the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA), the Biopharmaceutical CEO Roundtable (BCR), and the Gates CEO Roundtable. The Associate Director role requires a collaborative mindset and the ability to build trust and alignment across dispersed teams and diverse audiences. This role will demonstrate impact by helping shape and advance policies that expand access to Gilead’s medicines, enable successful global launches, and support Gilead’s business model.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum 10 years professional experience in government affairs, healthcare policy, or global health role.
  • Minimum 5 years professional experience in an international, intergovernmental or multilateral organization or in a role requiring substantial engagement with global health organizations
  • Understanding of pharmaceutical business model and related policy issues
  • Expert knowledge of global health issues and key global health stakeholders
  • Strong network of contacts across global health organizations
  • Ability to apply sound judgment, communicate effectively, think creatively and work as an integral member of a complex, matrixed and multinational organization
  • Experience building and maintaining collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders in a fast-moving policy environment
  • Experience working with trade associations and supporting executives
  • Ability to travel to domestic and international locations as needed

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and advancement of Gilead’s priorities and positions on international trade, AI, data privacy, regulatory affairs, responsible business, and other emerging policy issues.
  • Represent Gilead in industry associations by staffing relevant committees and contributing to executive briefings for global health industry associations, such as the IFPMA, the Biopharmaceutical CEO Roundtable (BCR), and the Gates CEO Roundtable.
  • Engage with internal stakeholders to align on high-priority global health policies and coordinate outreach to global health organizations to advance Gilead’s policy objectives.
  • Ensure rapid communication with all members of GA on global health policy issues as they relate to international organizations that have a direct impact on their markets.
  • Support adaptation of relevant health policy positions for country-level advocacy needs.
  • Ensure inclusion of Gilead priorities in industry advocacy and government proposals informed by subject matter experts.
  • Conduct policy analysis and present timely recommendations to support external engagement with international organizations to promote healthcare funding and appropriate access for Gilead medicines.
  • Work with cross-functional internal partners to help develop policy strategies with global health organizations to support product launches.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to drive Gilead’s corporate responsible business position and ensure alignment with Gilead policy priorities and engagement with national or above-country industry associations.
  • Coordinate with GA teams to build advocacy strategy and coordinate outreach to multilateral regional offices.
  • Monitor and maintain a calendar of relevant global health organization events, side events and policy-related opportunities for engagement.
  • Partner with Public Affairs and affiliates to support Gilead thought leadership efforts related to global health policy issues.
