About The Position

This role is responsible for evolving the Corporate Actuarial function. It oversees Loss Reserving and Claims Actuarial functions, while also overseeing other cross-departmental functions such as Actuarial Studies Team and Capital Management. The position serves as the Actuarial liaison to various functional areas, presents recommendations to management, and ensures that work adheres to actuarial principles and internal policies/standards. Additionally, the role involves training, coaching, and developing staff.

Requirements

  • College degree with significant coursework in a quantitative field such as math, statistics, or actuarial science is required.
  • ACAS is required.
  • Three or more years of managerial experience with proven leadership skills is required.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills with the ability to balance strategic and tactical situations.
  • Ability to use independent judgment to plan, prioritize, and organize a diversified workload and manage competing priorities.
  • Aptitude for critical thinking and problem resolution.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to effectively explain complex ideas.

Nice To Haves

  • FCAS is preferred.
  • Minimum of ten years of varied actuarial experience is preferred.
  • Pricing experience in Personal and/or Commercial Lines is strongly desired.
  • Commercial Lines experience is also desired, especially in Commercial Specialty (E & S, Programs, etc.) as well as experience in Assumed Reinsurance.

Responsibilities

  • Establishing and evolving the strategic direction of the Corporate Actuarial function.
  • Overseeing and leading various non-pricing functions within Actuarial, including Loss Reserving and Claims Actuarial, and potentially Actuarial Studies and Capital Management.
  • Ensuring reserve analysis adheres to Actuarial Standards of Practice.
  • Partnering with Claims leaders to provide analytical support and interpret Claims-related initiatives or trends, including participation in the Claims Extended Leadership Team.
  • Managing and/or consulting on capital and reinsurance related topics, such as capital adequacy models, risk transfer programs, evaluation of business development opportunities, and development of enterprise risk appetite and tolerances.
  • Managing and/or consulting on other Actuarial topics, such as accident year performance, loss planning support, actuarial best practices and modernization, and data coordination.
  • Preparing and potentially presenting technical topics and analysis to executive and Board audiences.
  • Clearly communicating positioning on issues and interacting professionally with a diverse group, including executives, managers, subject matter experts, and vendors.
  • Collaborating with business partners and peers to ensure analyses, insights, and results are effectively leveraged.
  • Employing continuous improvement, automation, and innovation to increase efficiency of the Corporate Actuarial function.
  • Developing staff through training, coaching, performance feedback, performance assessments, and establishing development plans.
  • Establishing, communicating, and implementing team plans, objectives, and strategies.
  • Maintaining actuarial continuing education requirements.
