About The Position

Sierra Nevada Corporation is seeking experienced Avionics Modification Technical Specialists for our Hagerstown, MD team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in avionics systems, hands-on experience, and a comprehensive understanding of aircraft maintenance and troubleshooting. As an Avionics Technician II, you will independently install, test, troubleshoot, and repair avionics systems. You will ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and maintain detailed records of your work. The Mission Solutions and Technologies (MST) business area provides affordable, turn-key command/control, communications, integrated ISR, force protection and security solutions worldwide. The MST team has a long legacy of supporting the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, commercial and international customers with years of experience in platform operations, engineering and full lifecycle management across domains – air, land, sea, space and cyber.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1+ years of relevant experience. Higher level relevant degree may substitute for experience.
  • Proficiency in electronic principles and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Ability to understand applicable technical schematics, diagrams, blueprints, manuals, and/or publications; ability to route wires per technical drawings.
  • Basic skills with avionics installation tooling, wiring, wiring repair, and wiring installation.
  • Experience with soldering and crimping techniques.
  • Must have own tools in good working order.
  • Must have ability to obtain/maintain U.S. security clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance for employment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the work shift.
  • Hand and finger dexterity to work with small mechanical components and tools.
  • Ability to work in a noisy environment with potential exposure to hazardous materials.
  • Ability to read detailed technical manuals, schematics, and computer screens.
  • Ability to inspect and troubleshoot equipment and systems accurately.
  • Ability to hear and understand spoken communication in noisy environments, such as industrial sites or construction areas.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all tasks, including repairs, installations, and maintenance.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and adhere to safety protocols.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in Avionics, Electronics, or a related field.
  • Advanced soldering skills and knowledge of electronic test equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret advanced technical manuals and schematics.
  • Familiarity with FCC and FCC General Radio Operator License (GROL).
  • Basic understanding of spectrometer, oscilloscope. and/or pitot static equipment.
  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, the US Department of Defense, or US Military.

Responsibilities

  • Perform installation and maintenance of avionics equipment independently.
  • Troubleshoot and repair avionics systems.
  • Conduct detailed testing of avionics components.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with FCC, FAA, and company regulations.
  • Assist in training junior technicians.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and manuals in good condition.
