About The Position

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. As an Avionics Systems Engineer on a hardworking team of specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will define, capture and manage mission-specific system requirements and verification artifacts within the Lunar Permanence Avionics organization. You will work closely with other system, software, hardware and integration & test engineers to establish the technical requirements and verification planning baseline and help ensure the successful verification of spacecraft performance and requirements compliance for the Avionics subsystems for a human-rated Lunar spacecraft. You will work at a spacecraft subsystem & system level with a focus on verification planning and execution for intra-element and inter-element Avionics designs and interfaces.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering or equivalent technical field
  • Experience with requirements management tools such as DOORS, Jama, etc.
  • 5+ years of Systems Engineering experience performing activities such as requirements definition, traceability, interface definition, design documentation, integration, verification, and validation
  • Understanding of the Systems Engineering lifecycle and the “Systems Engineering V”
  • Background in one or more Avionics subsystems, including Electrical Power, Command and Data Handling, Communications, and Harness.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Spacecraft analysis and/or test background
  • Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering
  • Familiarity with System Modeling tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler
  • Experience across the product life cycle (pre-conceptual design through operational support)
  • Software or scripting language experience
  • Knowledge of collaboration tools such as Confluence and JIRA
  • Working knowledge of DO-254, DO-178, DO-160, SMC-S-016, NASA 7150.2, or other similar hardware/software assurance, verification, and test standards.
  • Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical or Computer Engineering or a related discipline

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Lunar Permanence Lead Systems Engineers, Spacecraft Vehicle Engineering, Flight Software, and Ground Systems Engineering Teams to define system requirements in a model-based environment across multiple customers and missions
  • Engage with internal and external customers, including government agencies and contractors, to perform analysis of unique customer and mission requirements
  • Develop and manage requirement specifications, including internal and external interfaces, with accurate flow-down and traceability
  • Understand and define the relationships and traceability between requirements, design parameters, technical budgets, ICDs, program plans, and technical performance measures
  • Establish certification, verification, and validation approaches for team analysis tools’ methodology and results.
  • Establish verification approaches and plans for system requirements and identify Integration and Test activities required for successful requirements Verification Closure Notices
  • Work across organizational boundaries to manage the successful acquisition of verification data necessary to show compliance to system requirements
  • Perform compliance and traceability assessments and be able to report key metrics and issues effectively to program leadership and stakeholders
