About The Position

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. As part of a hardworking team of engineers, you will work with other software systems engineers and other discipline teams to ensure compliance to standards and define processes around the required compliance. You will also have long term vision and strategy for the products to truly sustain lunar missions. We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Requirements

  • BS or higher degree in Computer Science or related technical field involving coding (e.g., physics or mathematics), or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years professional experience minimum.
  • Experience with Linux, Docker, Continuous Integration and Delivery
  • Experience developing and owning CI/CD pipelines that deliver high quality work to customers continuously.
  • Experience improving stability through monitoring, analysis, thoughtful code reviews, and detailed feedback.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with AWS and its tools
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code and technologies used to achieve this (Terraform/CloudFormation)
  • Hands-on experience with software defined networking (VPC, Subnets, Firewalls, VPNs, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience with containerization technologies (such as Docker) and orchestration platforms (such as Kubernetes)
  • Hands-on experience with Rancher for centralized management, provisioning, and governance of Kubernetes clusters across distributed environments
  • Proficiency with RKE2 (Rancher Kubernetes Engine 2), including cluster deployment, upgrades, and hardening in security-conscious environments
  • Experience implementing and operating Longhorn for distributed block storage, including volume management, backups/snapshots, and disaster recovery
  • In depth knowledge with the following tools: Alloy, Loki, Prometheus, Hashicorp Consul, Hashicorp Vault
  • Experience deploying to, and managing, an on-premises/cloud hybrid infrastructure solution
  • Experience improving stability through monitoring, analysis, thoughtful code reviews, and detailed feedback.
  • Experience with Python
  • Experience with GitLab
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proven understanding of source control tools and concepts such as git workflows, versioning, branching.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong experience in leading complex DevOps projects from inception to completion, involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience in engaging with end-users and stakeholders to gather requirements and feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to rapidly changing environments and new technologies quickly.
  • Experience with scripted and compiled languages such as python, and C/C++.
  • Experience using configuration as code tools to manage physical workstations (Ansible, etc.)
  • Experience with Agile methodologies
  • Aerospace Industry experience with safety critical software and/or tools qualification activities
  • Experience with NPR 7150.2D

Responsibilities

  • Lead in architectural discussions to advocate for scalable and secure DevOps practices.
  • Design and implement monitoring solutions to proactively identify issues, ensuring system reliability and performance.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance automation, improve deployment frequency, and reduce manual interventions.
  • Conduct regular audits of CI/CD pipelines to ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reports to provide insights into system performance and team productivity.
  • Engage in code reviews, pair programming, and technical workshops to foster a culture of learning and innovation.
  • Collaborate with developers and program managers to design and develop CI/CD pipelines for avionics software deployed to development hardware, simulated environments, and hardware-in-the-loop systems.
  • Train, guide, and mentor team members on CI/CD best practices.
  • Set direction and goals for the team regarding project impact, product quality, and engineering efficiency.
  • Collect and analyze data to understand and troubleshoot pipeline performance.
  • Understand the safety-critical software development process and create tools to enhance its efficiency and effectiveness.
