Avionics - Stage Integration & Test Engineer

Stoke Space•Kent, WA
•$123,000 - $252,105

About The Position

Stoke is developing Nova, a fully and rapidly reusable launch vehicle intended to make space transportation more affordable, available, and reliable. The Avionics - Stage Integration & Test Engineer will own the architecture, integration, testing, and launch of launch-vehicle avionics flight hardware at an early-stage startup. The role calls for a broad understanding of the mechanical, electrical, and software interfaces needed to integrate and operate the vehicle. Working with design, manufacturing, test-site, and launch-site teams, the engineer will define integration, electrical checkout, and pre-flight operating sequences leading to Nova’s first launch. The role also includes identifying solutions to difficult technical problems and helping establish company standards for avionics integration and test. The position requires focus, self-direction, adaptability, and the ability to work quickly.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in electrical engineering or equivalent on-the-job experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience designing, building, or testing electrical systems or electronics; research and extracurricular academic projects qualify.
  • Experience with integration, test, or operations of complex multidisciplinary systems such as launch vehicles, satellites, aircraft, or automotive systems.
  • Experience developing electrical schematics.
  • Familiarity with automated test sequences and laboratory equipment for development testing of circuits and components.
  • U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or protected-individual status as specified under ITAR requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
  • Rigorous attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Own integrated avionics systems through design, development, manufacturing, testing, and flight.
  • Develop system and harness schematics, equipment lists, and integration and test plans for the complete stage and engine avionics system in partnership with peer teams.
  • Facilitate or use hardware-in-the-loop test solutions to validate vehicle designs and develop continuous integration test objectives.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the mechanical, electrical, and software interfaces needed to integrate and operate the launch vehicle.
  • Own system-level integration schedules, including component- and system-level delivery targets and outward reporting.
  • Troubleshoot electrical hardware issues on the vehicle and coordinate with component owners on corrective actions and design changes.
  • Develop day-of-flight procedures and sequences for battery charging, avionics health checks, and vehicle launch and recovery.
  • Support integrated stage and hot-fire testing at the Moses Lake, Washington test site and onsite at Cape Canaveral.
  • Provide on-console avionics support for stage-level tests, launch operations, and recovery operations.
