About The Position

The AVID Elective is a college preparatory course designed for students who demonstrate the determination to work hard and succeed in rigorous coursework. Students learn strategies that will aid them on their journey to college and in life. Two days a week, AVID Elective classes incorporate tutorials with the assistance of tutors. Tutorials offer students a platform to present their points of confusion to a group of peers, who then help them resolve these issues through inquiry-based questioning. The role of an AVID tutor is primarily that of a facilitator, guiding a group of approximately 7 students to encourage them to ask questions of the presenter, thereby prompting critical thinking.

Requirements

• Must be 21 years of age or older to be hired into a secondary (middle school and high school) building
• Must have a valid Idaho Driver’s license and a vehicle to drive and/or must provide own transportation for job related activities
• Strong intrapersonal communication skills
• Commitment of time required for AVID activities
• Fingerprinting and a background check with the West Ada School District are required for this position
• Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal conversation and to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person
• Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work and assessments, prepare and review documents, and organize documents and materials
• Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to perform repetitive hand/wrist/arm motions and to operate a computer and office equipment
• Sufficient personal mobility, flexibility, and balance, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to work in an office environment, lifting or moving objects that weigh up to 20 lbs.
