About The Position

This is a part-time, non-benefited position open only to University of North Dakota students. The position is off campus and requires tutoring at Valley Middle School and Grand Forks Central High School. The role pays $16.00 per hour, is non-exempt and eligible for overtime, and requires 6–10 hours per week. Remote and hybrid work are not available.

The tutor helps middle and high school students prepare for college by teaching study and organizational skills and providing individualized and group academic assistance. The position includes a one-hour foundational training and ongoing professional development in tutoring strategies and best practices. Tutors use AVID strategies to foster critical thinking, inquiry, and collaborative learning, and prepare materials and guide discussions to provide productive, focused academic support.

Requirements

• Be a University of North Dakota student.
• Have accepted a Federal Work Study award from the Office of Student Finance.
• Be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits for the employed academic semester.
• Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
• Successfully complete a Criminal History Background Check.
• Provide own transportation to the off-campus location.
• Be reliable.
• Be detailed.
• Have good communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Complete a one-hour foundational training in methodologies.
• Tutor middle and high school students, helping them prepare for college by teaching study and organizational skills.
• Participate in ongoing professional development sessions to deepen understanding of tutoring strategies and best practices.
• Deliver individualized and group academic assistance tailored to students’ needs.
