About The Position

The AVID Associate/Tutor will work with students in District 186 Middle and High Schools. This role involves tutoring students in small study groups across various subject areas, evaluating student work (binders, calendars, notes, etc.), and conducting focused tutorial sessions. The position requires flexibility, adherence to school policies, and regular communication regarding student progress. The role is part-time, with hours based on availability (up to 6 hours per day) and a schedule of 2 days per week.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Requires tutors to participate in AVID curriculum training online
• Must be willing to meet regularly to discuss student progress and concerns
• Requires the ability to effectively work with students of diverse backgrounds
• Keeps informed of and adheres to school regulations and policies
• Be flexible in meeting the needs of the school
• Maintain prompt and regular attendance for each tutoring session

Nice To Haves

• Strong math and science backgrounds preferred
• Current university or college students or some college experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Tutor students in small study groups and assist them in all subject areas relevant to them and determine concepts that need to be re-taught
• Evaluate student binders, calendars, class and Cornell notes, learning logs, etc.
• Conduct brainstorming and clustering sessions
• Conduct and determine concepts that need to be focused upon in tutorial sessions
• Perform other duties as assigned.
