About The Position

This is a temporary, grant-funded position with the possibility of extension. The Aviation Planner/Recruiter is a full-time faculty member with summer duties, reporting to the Dean of the James M. Johnson School of Aviation Sciences. Funded by an Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) ARISE Planning Grant, this role is responsible for coordinating outreach to grant partners and establishing relationships with high schools, flight schools, post-secondary institutions, and workforce development boards to identify mutual goals. The position is crucial for sustaining CCBC's expanded aviation career pathway and may involve classroom instruction outside of the contract period.

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Post-secondary teaching experience at a community college.
  • A commercial pilot rating and Advanced Ground Instructor (AGI) and Instrument Ground School (IGI) certificates, or current Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) and Certified Flight Instructor - Instrument (CFII) ratings.
  • A candidate hired with an AGI and IGI must complete the CFI Renewal Course (FIRC) as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute convening meetings for the ARISE Grant and subsequent grants.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with high schools, flight schools, post-secondary institutions, workforce development boards, and other aviation-oriented organizations.
  • Plan and represent the James M. Johnson School of Aviation Sciences at recruitment events within its footprint, including high schools, college fairs, community and CCBC events, workshops, and local/regional aviation conferences.
  • Maintain a strong knowledge of the School of Aviation Sciences academic offerings.
  • Track and maintain accurate records of relationship-building and recruitment activities.
  • Collaborate with the Dean and College Here and Now staff to implement the High School Aviation Academy.
  • Embrace all teaching and learning modalities.
  • Respond to student needs.
  • Participate in various school and college duties, including committee membership and leadership.
  • Demonstrate and maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
  • Support college administrative requirements.
  • Demonstrate interest and participation in the total affairs of the college, including student, business, and community activities and completion of strategic initiatives.
  • Travel to all CCBC locations to teach.
  • Other duties as assigned.
