About The Position

The AV Technician II position supports the Museum’s technology rich multimedia spaces including the Wattis Theater, White Box, Koret Education Center, and the technical production activities in support of the event, film, and interpretive gallery programming. The AV Technician II also provides support to Senior AV Technician, Assistant AV Manager, and AV Manager, acts as lead on special projects, during designated special events, or for other Museum programming. All Audio Visual technical positions are responsible for such operational duties as the physical installation and configuration of AV equipment, audio and video mixing, general production and post-production activities, repair, and preventative maintenance of equipment.

Requirements

  • Experience operating and troubleshooting a variety of media systems, AV and production equipment.
  • Knowledge of standard AV technologies, web, video, and audio conferencing and video streaming.
  • Experience working with sound and lighting systems in live performance settings.
  • Relevant experience that supports your ability to master new skills quickly.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with a mix of in-house audio/visual staff, freelance technicians, and contractor supplied technicians as necessary.
  • Knowledge of current generation digital mixers and videography; or, demonstration of genuine interest and capacity to learn.
  • Technical proficiency with standard suite of workplace applications (Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) as well as applications and platforms related to space and resource scheduling.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Proficiency in writing well-formulated emails.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions, decipher schematics, diagrams and floor plans, and quickly comprehend work-order and task reports.
  • Strong work ethic. Ability to work independently and reliably.
  • Developed organizational and task management ability is essential.
  • Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure, respond to changing demands, and prioritize.
  • Capacity to anticipate needs and problems and respond proactively.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for the Museum’s event, performance, and presentation spaces and equipment including the Wattis Theater, White Box, Koret Education Center, digital signage, interpretive galleries and accessory spaces as needed.
  • Perform the setup and teardown of Museum AV furniture and equipment for performance, film, events, lectures, and presentations.
  • Operate and maintain all AV equipment and provide technical and logistical support, and end-user training as needed.
  • Monitor the set-up and load-out of vendors and ensure compliance with Museum policy and protocol.
  • Communicate appropriate policies, operating procedures, and standards for use by Museum staff and contractors.
  • Prepare client provided media and equipment and test to ensure compatibility with Museum systems.
  • Monitor and maintain presentation of AV equipment in museum venues. Arrange repair and/or replacement of equipment as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
