About The Position

The Design Engineer owns AV system design and estimating for standard projects, from opportunity qualification through handoff to Operations. This individual carries an independent workload without day-to-day supervision and is accountable for the accuracy and buildability of everything that leaves their desk. The role requires knowledge of product functionality and installation best practices sufficient both to build to consultant-driven designs and to develop original designs from client requirements. The Design Engineer works directly with the sales and operations teams and maintains effective working relationships with clients, consultants, and trade partners. Career Progression: Advancement to Senior Design Engineer is earned by taking on large, complex, multi-stakeholder projects, becoming a dependable technical reviewer of other engineers’ work, and holding CTS-D certification.

Requirements

  • 4-year degree and/or equivalent related experience.
  • 3–6 years of AV system design or estimating experience.
  • CTS required; CTS-D preferred.
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam and estimating platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to carry an independent project workload and meet committed dates.
  • Strong written communication — scopes and estimates are read by clients and contractors.

Responsibilities

  • Own system design and estimating for assigned projects end-to-end, from qualification through handoff.
  • Produce complete and accurate bills of material and cost estimates, including freight, labor, and project-specific expenses.
  • Develop original system designs from client requirements, and build to consultant-specified designs where they exist.
  • Write scopes of work with technical descriptions that hold up in contract and in the field.
  • Identify scope and specification gaps before they reach estimate or installation, and resolve them with the account executive or client.
  • Run site walk-throughs and technical review meetings independently.
  • Support account executives in requirements gathering and client-facing technical discussion.
  • Coordinate directly with consultants, vendors, general contractors, and electrical contractors on assigned projects.
  • Price and document change orders for the Operations team.
  • Transition completed design packages to the Project Manager and installation team.
  • Apply LINX design standards, and flag where a standard is missing or no longer fits.
